About Me

Dr. Jonathan Ungar is a board-certified Dermatologist focusing on skin cancer. He is the Medical Director of the Waldman Melanoma and Skin Cancer Center at Mount Sinai and specializes in monitoring, detecting, diagnosing, and treating of skin cancers. To augment traditional Total Body Skin Exams to detect skin cancers, he utilizes cutting-edge, non-invasive techniques including:

  • Mole Mapping / Total Body Photography
  • Optical Coherence Tomography
  • Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  • Electrical Impedance Spectrosopy
  • Gene expression testing

These combined techniques and technologies allow for the most up-to-date capabilities in non-surgical, scar-free diagnosis of skin cancers.

After graduating from Harvard College, Dr. Ungar worked in management consulting for several years. During this period, he realized that a career in medicine was his calling, and he returned to Harvard to complete the required post-baccalaureate course work.

After graduating from Stony Brook School of Medicine, as an inductee of the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society, he completed his internship in the Department of Internal Medicine at Winthrop-University Hospital. Subsequently, he came to the The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai to complete his residency in Dermatology, serving as Chief Resident.

In addition to his clinical duties, he participates in clinical research and contributes to medical education serving as the Associate Director of the Residency Training Program in the Dermatology Department, overseeing the training of future Dermatologists.
